A: The ideal time to start recruiting your Street Team is 2–3 months before your book launch.
Here’s why I suggest this:
You’ll have time to gather and vet interested ARC readers and Street Team members.
- Not everyone is the right fit—this window lets you find your most enthusiastic and reliable supporters.
You can build genuine rapport.
- It’s so important that your team feels connected to you as an author. Relationships matter.
ARCs get into readers’ hands early.
- This is a big one. You’ll want to give people time to read, especially since some folks move at a slower pace. Planning ahead ensures timely reviews.
You’ll generate excitement around your cover and upcoming release.
- The more hype you build, the more eyes (and readers!) you’ll attract.
Note: This timing is especially helpful if you’re launching a debut novel or the first book in a series.
If you’re releasing a sequel or already have a loyal reader base, 2 months out may be enough. But for new authors or first-time team builders, give yourself closer to 3 months to do it right.
Stay tuned for Part 2, where I’ll break down exactly what to do during those 2–3 months to make your Street Team thrive.
